Darby Junior High School representatives joined Liz Armstrong of the General Darby Legacy Project on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in announcing the beginning of efforts to erect a monument of the general at the southeast corner of Cisterna Park in Fort Smith. The General Darby Legacy Monument will serve to honor the memory of Gen. William O. Darby for his contributions during World War II and his ultimate sacrifice as the founder of the U.S. Army Rangers.

Barragan was part of the school's representatives joining Liz Armstrong of the General Darby Legacy Project in announcing the beginning of efforts to erect a monument of the general at the southeast corner of Cisterna Park. The General Darby Legacy Monument will serve to honor the memory of Gen. Darby for his contributions during World War II and his ultimate sacrifice as the founder of the U.S. Army Rangers. The monument will be a recreation of documented pictures of Gen. Darby  riding a 1942 Harley Davidson WLA during World War II. A Call for Artist Qualification was released on January 21, 2013 and are due back to the selection committee on March 31, 2013.  An announcement will be made after the finalist have been selected.  The 15-foot tall statue will be placed at the East End of Garrison Avenue at Cisterna Park. Cisterna, Italy, is the town where the Rangers sustained heavy losses under Colonel Darby.
